Family Learning

Background

Family Learning offers a range of creative learning activities which allow children and their parents, carers and relatives to learn together in a safe inclusive environment. Research shows that children stand a much better chance of succeeding in life if their parents/carers are engaged in learning. Family Learning aims to create a culture of aspiration in every family, removing barriers to learning and raising confidence and self-belief.

Service features

The Family Learning team will support you to:

  • identify and agree programmes to address the specific needs and interests of the parents/carers, children and local community.
  • access an extensive range of planned, purposeful and progressive activities that involve parents, children and the wider family.
  • engage families and children in learning.

The courses are diverse and varied, ranging from learning about phonics, methods of calculation, silk painting, cooking, family science and much more. All are planned around the child’s age, key stage, ability and linked to the curriculum area.

Benefits of using our service

Our dedicated team of well qualified and experienced teachers and assessors use their expertise to deliver interesting and innovative sessions to enhance the learning of parents/carers and their children in a safe and supported environment.

The courses are intended to empower parents and carers to have the confidence to support their children at home, to reinforce and extend the skills they have learned at school.

Families are our first and most important educators and Family Learning is recognised as a powerful way of engaging parents and carers back into learning, hence breaking the cycle of underachievement.

‘Family Learning at my children’s school is great. We have been learning together and completed courses on craft, maths and science. The courses are tailored to suit the age of the children so we can learn how to help them. A big thumbs up.’
